Learning objectives
Course aims at introduction to general and linguistic characters of librettos, and to language of song, with particular attention for students without advanced competence in linguistics, bur also with possibility of linguistic advanced analysis.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge: foundation and evolution of italian opera and of poetic language of opera and song.
Competence: ability to analyze a text for music identifying most important linguistic phenomenons

In case of health emergency, lessons will be overall in distance mode. Any change in syllabus will be reported on website Ariel of Lingua italiana e testi per musica at the beginning of first semester.

Course syllabus
In Part A, frontal lessons delineate key moments in literary and linguistic history of opera, with reading and analysis of texts and listening.
In Part B frontal lessons will deal subjects and italian and foreign literary sources, with analysis of some exemples in XIX Century.
In Part C, consider the main characteristics of the Italian song language. Investigation from students will be possible.

Prerequisites for admission
Previous knowledges neither in musicological field neither in historical linguistic field are requested.

Teaching methods
Except health emergency, lessons will be in front mode, with the appeal of textual material and listening material; during lessons, teachers solicit by students asks, remarks, comments, etc. Optional exercises by students are expected in part A.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Oral exam is a talk on program topics, to verifying acquisition of lessons and of bibliography for attending students, and to verifying acquisition of bibliography for not attending students. The teachers will pay attention and consideration to different study courses of students.
