Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to give an introduction to the basic theory of laser systems and to provide the appropriate knowledge to design, build and test a laser working in three different regimes: continuous, Q-switched and mode-locked.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the laboratory course the student will have a detailed knowledge of more optical techniques, in detail:
1) alignment of an optical cavity and a laser
2) measurement of relaxation oscillations of different lasers
3) measurement of frequency differences between the modes of a laser
4) realization of a single mode laser
5) realization of a pulsed laser in Q-switch regime
6) measurement of the temporal length of the pulses of a mode-locked laser
