Learning objectives
This course aims at providing a basic knowledge on the activities performed in different Fitness and Wellness scenarios, from sports&fitness clubs to leisure and recreational contexts/centers, at individual and group level. Diverse technologies, methods and equipment will be analyzed in order to meet typical customers' and gym users' goals: performance development, -mantaining, and recovery, including their related psycho-physical wellness and weight loss.
Expected learning outcomes
The course will be providing graduates with knowledge and adequate competences relative to:

·Classification, specificity, and nomenclature of the exercises and equipment used for various muscle and joints groups;
·Baseline physical fitness evaluation, from monitoring to achievement of the goals;
·Most appropriate methods and technologies in relation to the planned Fitness and Wellness objectives;
·Criteria for applying and carrying out specific technics and interventions;
·Designing personalized programs for amateurs, healthy and adult people;
·Customer and business management

- Concepts of fitness and wellness, and their changes in response to the demands of modern society and future prospects
- Classification, theory, technique, and didactics of overloading exercises (free weights and isotonic machines): principles, correct execution, didactic approach, assistance, and practical exercises
- Definition and structure of gym workout charts for fitness
- Elements in teaching Olympic weightlifting
- Equipment and innovative methods for teaching neuromuscular cognitive training (relaxing)
- Proprioceptivity: principles, objectives, proprioceptive training of balance with/without perturbation
- Posture evaluation in fitness (tests and methods)
- Muscle stretching : principal methods (static, dynamic); concept of muscle chains and application to global decompensated stretching
- Methods and techniques for psychophysical relaxation (meditation, autogenic training and its variants)
- Specific methods (e.g., Pilates)
- Functional fitness: principles, objectives (floor exercises, calisthenics, with/without equipment, TRX, kettlebell, Crossfit)
- Functional evaluation in fitness (children, adults, older adults)
- Evaluation of anthropometric characteristics and body composition (main methods in fitness)
- Cardiopulmonary evaluation in fitness/principles and techniques for cardiorespiratory conditioning (aerobic training)
- Use of wearable technologies/devices and smart apps in fitness (monitoring of training, energy expenditure during physical activity)
- Social-communicative aspects
- Social psychology in approach to the client/user
- Business management
- Definition of a company, and fitness business models in particular
- Classification of fitness centers
- Evaluation criteria of a fitness center and the commercial fitness sector
- Areas of competence
- Fitness population
- Marketing mix (four Ps: product, price, promotion, place)

Unit 1. Technical training
- Concepts of fitness and wellness, and their changes in response to the demands of modern society and future prospects
- Single and multiple joint movement
- Classification of strength exercises (basic and complementary exercises for the extension muscle chain and flexion muscle chain and specific muscle areas)
- Theory, technique, and didactics of floor exercises for conditioning and strength training (abs-glutes-thighs gymnastics) and on machines
- Principles and techniques of cardiorespiratory conditioning (aerobics)
- Contraindication, common errors, assistance, active and passive prevention
- Global and segmental stretching, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation in floor exercises with/without equipment (Pancafit® bench), comparison of study results
- Methods and techniques for muscle relaxation
- Functional fitness: principles, objectives (introduction to practice in the TRX method and kettlebell)
- Proprioceptive gymnastics: principles, objectives
Unit 2. Theory
Theoretical analysis of the topics covered in Unit 1.
- Organization of the proprioceptive nervous system (1 lesson)
- Posture evaluation (1 lesson)
- Evaluation of body composition: theoretical underpinnings of anthropoplicometry and impedentiometry (1 lesson)
- Acute and chronic effect of stretching (1 lesson)
- Evaluation of cardiofitness in the gym and planning of goal-oriented training (2 lessons)
- Muscle hypertrophy: theoretical concepts and methods for muscle development (2 lessons)
Prerequisites for admission
No previous knowledge required
Teaching methods
If the situation allows it, lessons will be held face to face in the classroom. Each lesson will be videotaped and made available asynchronously through the Ariel platform. If the situation worsens, the lessons will be delivered through the Microsoft Teams platform and can be followed in synchrony according to the scheduled time and asynchronously because they are recorded through the same platform.
