Course syllabus and organization

Single session

Lesson period
First semester
Course syllabus
The subject of the workshop for this semester will be the Roman age, with particular reference to northern Italy.
Prerequisites for admission
Preferential, but not diriment: 1) knowledge of the Latin language;
2) have taken the exam of Roman history.
Teaching methods
During the lectures some passages of documents taken from the ancient literary tradition and some epigraphic documents, selected with the aim of offering a first and concise overview of the documentary possibilities will then be examined which can be drawn both from the single document and from the comparison between the two sources. For example, we will see some epigraphic documents on topics which, neglected or deformed by literary sources, will testify the selective interests of ancient historiography and make clear the need to make use of all available sources. For this purpose, the basic tools, both bibliographic and IT, and the methodology for applying them, will be indicated in order to make students capable of critically setting up a short demonstration on a text independently, which will constitute the final test of the workshop.

Attendance is mandatory.
