Learning objectives
The lecture course will provide the tools to understand the chronological and geographical development of the European prehistoric and protohistoric cultures, their ideological and socio-economic structures, their arts, craft and building and, finally, their cultural and funerary self-representation.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the lecture course, the student will have acquired the ability to read the historical-archaeological evolution of European pre-protohistoric cultures in terms of material culture and ideology.

Course syllabus
Part A (20 hours, 3 cfu): The Neolithic with special reference to northern Italy. Chronological, cultural and socioeconomic framework;
Part B (20 hours, 3 cfu): Settlements and landscapes in the Neolithic of northern Italy;
Part C (20 hours, 3 cfu): Pits, silos, palisades. Settlement structures in the European Neolithic with special reference to the Italian Neolithic.
Prerequisites for admission
Curiosity, willingness to work in groups and to actively contribute to the individual and collective learning process.
Teaching methods
The course will take place alternating frontal lessons with individual or group presentations by the students. The lessons will present images in the form of power points and the use of other media.

The teaching materials presented in the lectures (slides) and handouts will be available on the Prehistory page of the Ariel platform (http://ariel.unimi.it/User/Default.aspx), once the lessons related to the teaching units in question have been completed.

Non-attending students have to agree on an alternative study path and preparation for the exam with the Professor.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam will be aimed at:
- ascertain the achievement of the objectives in terms of knowledge and comprehension;
- verify the student's autonomy of judgment also through the analysis of the cases discussed during the course or mentioned in the textbooks;
- ascertain the mastery of the specific language of the discipline and the ability to present the arguments in a clear and orderly manner.
The oral test provides:
- the verification of the knowledge of the texts reported in the bibliography according to the specific indications provided by the Professor, the handouts and other teaching aids made available to the students,
- the presentation of a thesis consisting of a power point presentation and a written text of at least five folders (bibliography excluded).
