Qualifications and knowledge required for admission
Applicants to the Bachelor's degree programme in Studies in Cultural Heritage must have a high-school diploma or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad.
The programme also requires an appropriate background knowledge, consisting of the linguistic and cultural competencies normally acquired in Italian secondary schools with a curriculum focusing on humanities. In particular, this includes adequate knowledge in the domains of literature, history, geography and art history, in order for students to be able to understand texts as well as artistic and literary phenomena in a broader European cultural context.

Assessment of background knowledge
Admission to the programme is subject to a mandatory, non-selective self-assessment test. Information in this regard is available in the section on enrolment organisation.

Additional learning requirements (OFA) and remedial activities
Students can enrol regardless of the outcome of the self-assessment test. Students who fail to obtain the minimum score required in the "Reading comprehension and Italian language proficiency" section, as stated in the call for applications, will have to fulfil additional learning requirements (OFA). The OFA must be fulfilled within the first year of the programme through remedial activities specifically planned by the University. For an overview of the remedial activities and the consequences of failing to meet the OFA, please visit

The Cultural Heritage Studies Bachelor's degree programme and the related Master's degree programmes have a specific Erasmus+ call for applications, providing mobility opportunities in over twenty universities in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and Portugal, as well as Northern and Eastern European institutions where courses are taught in English. The agreements with our partners cover all the study areas of the Cultural Heritage Studies degree programmes. Available subject areas: Archaeology, Art History, Theatre and Film, Music and Musicology. For each subject area and location, you can spend 3 to 10 months abroad, attending courses and taking exams that will be recognized as an integral part of the degree programme. You can also combine this activity with research for the preparation of your Bachelor's or Master's thesis, which will count towards the number of credits covered by the Erasmus scholarship. Every year, all teaching activities included in the programme are presented to interested students by the Erasmus manager in a specific informative meeting. The data and educational information required for submitting the Learning Agreement are also collected in special information sheets posted to the Erasmus page of the Faculty of Humanities https://www.unimi.it/en/node/12884/

If you are and incoming Erasmus student, you can attend all classes in Italian. If you wish, you can agree with individual instructors on a programme partly or entirely in English. Moreover, we have teaching staff exchange agreements with many partner universities, including visiting professor programmes for our faculty members abroad and for foreign colleagues at our institution, within the Department's programmes.
Attendance is strongly recommended for courses.
For laboratories, attendance is compulsory.
