Learning objectives
The course aims to provide knowledge of the structure and functioning of the Russian verbal category. The analysis of the verb will be deepened also thanks to the study of the prefixes, highlighting both their semantic and grammatical influence on the verb itself. The course also aims to examine the main derivational processes that characterize the Russian lexical system.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: the category of the verb in relation to the perfect and imperfective aspect; the imperative mode, the verbs of motion (with and without prefix) and the passive, participial and gerundive constructions; the category of the indefinite pronouns; the adjectives of short form; the relative, objective and final sentences. Applying knowledge and understanding: use of acquired structures in practice; reading and understanding of intermediate level texts, production of short texts; recognition within texts of the structures of the Russian verbal category and explanation of their functioning; recognition within texts of vocabulary-derivatives, identification of their root and brief explanation of the derivational process that led to their formation. The developed linguistic skills will correspond to the level A2 of the official standard established by the Council of Europe for the knowledge of foreign languages.

Course syllabus
The course is entitled "The verb and other morphosyntactic categories of the Russian language" and consists of the following three parts, which will be addressed in sequence:
A: The verbal aspect, the influence of prefixes on the verb, the imperative.
B: The category of verbs of motion with and without prefixes, the adjective of short-form, participial forms and gerundives.
C: The relative and the final sentences. The undefined pronouns. The verbs of position.
In part A will be studied the aspectual pairs of Russian verbs, the perfective and imperfective aspects at various times and in their different articulations, the imperative, the nuances of use of the verbal aspect at infinity, the indicative and the imperative, the spatial and temporal relations.
In part B will be dealt with the prefixes (po, pere, pro, do, na, pri, ot, za) and their influence on some elementary verbs, verbs of motion with and without prefixes, the adjective of short-form, participial forms and gerundives.
Finally, part C will deal with the complex sentence (relatives and final subordinates), undefined pronouns and verbs of position.
The course will be in Italian, with some parts in Russian.
The course programme is valid until the end of September 2025.

Prerequisites for admission
To take the exam of Russian Language 2, the student must have passed Russian Language 1 (written and oral) and Russian Literature 1.
Teaching methods
The course adopts the following teaching methods: frontal lectures; reading and analysis of short texts, exercises.
The topics will be presented from a theorical point of view; example ad exercises will be proposed. The topics will be analyzed in texts (some short texts will be analyzed in class and 50 pages by the students as self-work).
The course will be held mainly in Italian, with some parts (text analysis) in Russian.
The course is integrated with practical classes for which students are invited to refer to the specific form.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The teacher will evaluate the ability to write and speak correctly in Russian, to correctly apply the grammatical structures and lexical areas covered by the course / practical classes in the written and oral language, both as regards the carrying out of exercises and as regards the autonomous production of a text.
The exam consists of a written test and of an oral test. The final grade will be the average of the grades obtained in written and oral exams, expressed in thirtieths.
The exam grade can be recorded only when the students have passed both the written test and the oral part.
The written general exam can be taken starting from the end of the course, i.e. from May 2024. The oral exam can be taken starting from June 2024.
Students attending lessons and practical classes (active participation in at least 80% of lessons and 80% of practical classes) can have access to partial tests (replacing only the general written test), which will take place at the end of the first semester and at the end of the second semester. In this case, the final grade of the written exam is given by the average of the two partial tests of the first and second semester. To access to the second partial test, in addition to having attended at least 80% of lessons and 80% of practical classes in the second semester, it is essential to have passed the first partial test. In case of failure of one of the two partial tests, students will have to take the entire general written exam during the official exams (May, September, January).
The first partial exam will include:
· Grammar test with multiple-choice exercises, fill in the gaps, transformation and completion of sentences in the right form or tense (with respect to the topics covered during the first semester).
· Translation of sentences from Italian into Russian based on the application of grammar rules seen during the first semester.
· Comprehension of a written text answering open questions (in Russian).
The second partial exam will include:
· Grammar test with multiple-choice exercises, fill in the gaps, completion and transformation of sentences in the right form or tense (with respect to the topics covered during the second semester).
· Translation of sentences from Italian into Russian based on the application of grammar rules seen in the second semester.
· Written composition in Russian language (minimum 200 words) about a topic discusses during practical classes (the list of topics will be published on the Ariel page of the course).
The general written exam (for those who do not take partial exams or who have not passed one of the two) will consist in carrying out the two tests described above at once.
Oral exam
The aim of the oral test is to verify the student's theoretical and practical language skills regarding the topics covered during the course. The oral test will consist in:
1. Conversation/dialogue in Russian on a topic assigned directly at the time of the exam. (The topics assigned will require knowledge of the vocabulary covered during the practical classes. The list of topics will be published on the Arial page of the course);
2. Reading test (aloud), comprehension and morphological analysis of 50 pages on which the student must have worked independently throughout the year (teacher will publish the pages on the Arial site of the course). During the exam, the students will have to demonstrate that they can read aloud the assigned pages correctly, expose their content considering all the relevant topics (in Russian) and answer to teacher's question referred to the content (in Russian), analyze the morphological forms covered by the course contained therein (the analysis can be done in Italian; the basic terminology necessary for the analysis, which will be provided during the course, must be known in Russian).
3. Answering to grammar theory questions relating to the topics covered during the course (this part can be held in Italian, practical examples in Russian must be presented).
For students attending practical classes (active attendance of at least 80% of practical classes): The above mentioned point 1 (only point 1) of the oral exam (conversation in Russian language) will be replaced of on ongoing evaluation, which will take place during all the year.
During the practical classes, the students will have to prepare and present the works assigned by the teacher and answer to teacher's oral questions. These presentations will be constantly evaluated by the teacher and will contribute to the determination of the final grade of the exam.
The other points of the oral exam (points 2, 3) must be taken regularly in the exam sessions by all students, both attending and non-attending.
Students who do not attend the practical classes (participation in less than 80% of the classes) will also have to carry out point 1 of the oral exam in the normal exam sessions.
The final version of the program will be available on the course web page, on the Ariel online portal for teaching (http://ariel.unimi.it). All students are required to consult it before attending the exam.
International students or incoming Erasmus students are invited to make timely contact with the teacher. The examination modalities for students with disabilities and/or DSA must be agreed with the teacher, in agreement with the competent Office.
