Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to provide information and tools regarding the cultivation of vegetables in open field. In particular, the best agricultural practice considered the eco-physiological crop responses.
Expected learning outcomes
Students after the course will be able to manage the cultivation in open field for enhancing resources use efficiency without compromise the yield and quality of the produce.

Description of the specialized vegetable production farm and the agronomic techniques for cultivation in the open field starting from the propagation material to the collection and conservation of the products. The principles of organic horticulture. Classification of vegetables, botanical characteristics of each species, nutritional needs, cultivation techniques, and nutritional properties at harvest and during storage. The species that will be treated will be:
Garlic (Allium sativum L.)
Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.)
Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.)
Cabbages (Cauliflower, Broccoli, etc. Brassica oleracea spp)
Carrot (Dacus carota L.)
Onion (Allium cepa L.)
Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch)
Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.)
Melon (Cucumis melo L.) and Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus L.)
Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.)
Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)
Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)
Rocket (Diplotaxis tenuifolia L. Eruca sativa Mill.)
Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.)

Teaching methods
The course includes lectures where the program will be illustrated through the support of PowerPoint presentations, videos, and plant material for classroom study. During the course, in-depth analyzes will be provided through expert seminars and a technical visit to the productive realities of the Region.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam will be carried out written or oral in the session of appeal. In the written exam there will be open questions and multiple-choice questions. Scientific names of the species treated will be required. The oral exam will be carried out through questions on the entire program carried out in class to verify the understanding of the botanical characteristics and cultivation techniques of the different species. At the end of the exam, photographic recognition will be carried out.
