Learning objectives
In line with the educational objectives of the degree course, the teaching aims to provide the content and linguistic-functional tools to interact in English in the professional field, to communicate adequately even through telematic channels. The training is based on the use of teaching materials prepared for the consolidation of B1+ level and the approach to B2 CEFR. In addition, the teaching is intended to contribute to the awareness of the role of English as a lingua franca in business, political and institutional spheres in the international context.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will have acquired the communicative competence necessary to interact in a specialized context according to the B1+/B2 (CEFR) levels profile. They will have learned basic notions of communication in the professional field, specialized vocabulary, and pragmatic and rhetorical skills necessary to act in different managerial contexts. In addition, they will have gained awareness of the role of English, in the professional field, in the international context.

Course syllabus
The syllabus of the course is divided into 2 modules:
Module 1. Aspects of communication: English as a Lingua Franca; general notions regarding communication; communicative strategies in formal contexts; the linguistic registers; writing formal emails; the managerial contexts; writing the Curriculum Vitae; preparing for a job interview.
Module 2: Basic aspects of management: roles and functions; leadership styles; communicative aspects in team work; decision making, promoting and persuading, negotiating, organizing and planning.
Prerequisites for admission
Students need to pass the B1 level (CEFR) Placement Test in order to access the course exam. All information regarding when and where to take the Placement Test is available at SLAM web site:

Teaching methods
The lessons will have a mixed format, going from the teacher-fronted presentation to listening comprehension activities, from video-watching to reading comprehension activities. Particular attention will be given to specialized lexicon.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam will take place on Moodle platform, and it includes three parts: a listening comprehension activity; a series of multiple choice questions regarding communicative aspects, the specialized lexicon and content covered during the course; and a reading comprehension activity.
The exam will include all topics and materials available on Ariel, all contents present in the course texts and introduced during the course.
