Learning objectives
The aim of the workshop is to comment on German medieval lyrics and excerpts of relevant courtly romances dealing with different steps in the development of love. The texts will be read, translated and discussed in class, analyzed from a literary and cultural point of view.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop, students will have acquired a basic knowledge of the main genres of medieval German literature and the ability to analyze texts both from a literary and a cultural point of view. They will also have developed the ability of comparing different ways of representing love according to author, work and genre.

Course syllabus
The workshop is entitled Love in Medieval German Literature and is dedicated to reading and commenting on texts on the theme of love written by the greatest authors of Medieval German Literature. Poems and passages from courtly novels (dialogues of lovers, their reflections on love, scenes of encounter and separation, nostalgia for the beloved) will be analyzed. The texts will be in the original language with translation into modern German and Italian.

The course adopts the following teaching methods: reading and commenting on passages from the works in the program.

The course has a website on the online platform for teaching Ariel, to which you can refer for materials provided by the teacher.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The workshop ends with a short final individual interview, which includes questions asked by the teacher, interactions between teacher and student and the analysis and commentary of one or more excerpts from the works in the program.
The accreditation of the 3 cfu will be linked to the frequency of 75% of the meetings and to the passing of the verification interview.
