Learning objectives
The course aims to present the most relevant theories and discussions in the field of translation studies. These ideas will find concrete application on a number of translations from the three Scandinavian languages into Italian.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will be able to discuss the principal issues at stake in translation studies. They will develop translation skills on literary texts from the three Scandinavian languages into Italian, identifying the main problems and discussing possible solutions.

Course syllabus
The title of the course is 'Translation and publishing: Scandinavian literatures and the Italian publishing market' and aims to combine the study of the theory and practice of translation from Scandinavian languages with an in-depth study of the mechanisms that regulate the publishing market, with a focus on the role of the translator working with Scandinavian languages.
Prerequisites for admission
A thorough knowledge of one of the three Scandinavian languages is required, as well as good passive skills in the other two.

Assessment methods and Criteria
For attending students, the examination consists of the creation of a portfolio of materials relating to the process of researching, reading, proposing and translating at least two Scandinavian literary works. More information on this will be provided by the lecturer during the course.
