Learning objectives
In line with the educational objectives of the degree course, the teaching aims to provide the content and linguistic-functional tools to interact in English in the professional field, to communicate adequately even through telematic channels. The training is based on the use of teaching materials prepared for the consolidation of B1+ level and the approach to B2 CEFR. In addition, the teaching is intended to contribute to the awareness of the role of English as a lingua franca in business, political and institutional spheres in the international context.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will have acquired the communicative competence necessary to interact in a specialized context according to the B1+/B2 (CEFR) levels profile. They will have learned basic notions of communication in the professional field, specialized vocabulary, and pragmatic and rhetorical skills necessary to act in different managerial contexts. In addition, they will have gained awareness of the role of English, in the professional field, in the international context.

For the students of the MAPPE and GLO degree programs

The course is divided into two modules:
- Module 1 - Aspects of Communication
English as a lingua franca, global language, and international language; general notions of communication; communication strategies in formal contexts; language registers; writing formal emails; managerial contexts; the curriculum vitae; preparing for a job interview.
- Module 2 - Aspects of Managerial Practice
Roles and functions; leadership styles; communicative aspects of teamwork; decision-making, promoting and persuading, negotiating, planning, and organizing.

Prerequisites for admission
Students must have passed the B1 (CEFR) linguistic placement test (SLAM or recognized certificatory bodies) in order to access the final exam.

This requirement is managed by the degree courses and not by the teaching staff.
Without a B1 certificate (SLAM or recognized certificatory bodies) students will not be able to enroll for the exam. Please, note that this is an administrative requirement and not a requirement of professors Staggini and Tosi.
Make sure to meet this requirement well before registering for this exam.
Teaching methods
Classes will be delivered in a mixed format: synchronous lectures both in person and online, and asynchronous lectures. Collaborative activities and virtual (online) cultural exchanges will also be included.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam is computer-based, takes place on the Moodle platform, and consists of:
· a listening task with comprehension exercises,
· a set of multiple-choice questions on communicative, lexical, and content-related aspects covered in the course,
· the reading of a written text followed by comprehension exercises.
The exam will cover all materials available on Ariel, as well as the content found in the bibliographic texts and/or covered during the course.
Optional participation in extra activities proposed by the instructor—related to the practical application of course content—will contribute to the final grade.
