Physiopathology, Introduction in Biotechnologies Diagnostic and Therapy
A.Y. 2025/2026
Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with a general knowledge:
- of the main physiological systems and their related pathophysiologies
- of the principles of diagnosis and therapy in liquid and solid tumours
- of the main physiological systems and their related pathophysiologies
- of the principles of diagnosis and therapy in liquid and solid tumours
Expected learning outcomes
The course aims to provide students with the basic knowledge of the major human diseases and the processes that cause them, in order to provide the necessary background for understanding the role of the biotechnology tools employed in diagnostics and therapy of these alterations. To this end, the course is structured in a series of lectures regarding the pathophysiology of the main systems complemented by lectures on the possible biotechnological approaches related to the diagnostics and treatment of the analyzed diseases.
Lesson period: First semester

Prerequisites for admission
Students must have fulfilled all the prerequisite requirements indicated in the study plan: Biochemistry and Fundamentals of Human Biochemistry, General Pathology and Immunology, Human phyisiology.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The assessment of learning takes place by means of a written test consisting of multiple-choice questions of which only one is correct. No reference materials are allowed during the learning test. The test results are sent electronically by the course president.
Medical physiopathology
Course syllabus
The module analyses various examples of physiological changes, and their causes, and describes their pathological consequences at organ level. In order to gain an understanding of the complexity of pathological processes, some manifestations of cell damage and their consequences on organ functioning are addressed in an integrated manner. Throughout the course, the basic topics of diagnosis will be addressed in order to provide students with the main tools for test indications and interpretation of results.
