Integrated Learning Objectives (i.e., Common Core)
The trainee must have acquired skills in medical statistics, hygiene, forensic medicine, occupational medicine, epidemiology, business organization, demography, work and organizational psychology, and labor law.
The objective of the common training for the disciplines in the class is to acquire knowledge of the classification and characterization of different population groups, their general and work organization, and lifestyles, taking into account the increasingly important psychological implications.
All of this is aimed at performing appropriate statistical assessments, analyzing hygiene, medico-legal, occupational, and risk issues, determining suitability, assessing pathologies and disabilities, and applying all preventive criteria as required by current and evolving legislation.

Basic Educational Objectives
- Acquiring targeted knowledge of physics, general and inorganic chemistry, applied physics and chemistry, chemical fundamentals of technology, chemical engineering, engineering of technologies and processing systems, health and environmental engineering, physiology, general, clinical, and molecular biochemistry, toxicology, medical genetics, microbiology, pathological anatomy, laboratory techniques and medicine, psychology, and computer science;
- Understanding and applying epidemiological methodology for the surveillance and control of diseases and injuries in the workplace;
- Understanding the natural history, frequency, impact on quality of life, and social and health impact of major work-related pathologies, with particular reference to fitness for work and rehabilitation;
- Evaluate the genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors that influence workers' health and understand their mechanisms of action;
- Understand and apply the main clinical, laboratory, and instrumental methodologies to assess workers' health;
- Understand and apply the main regulations regarding workplace health and safety;
- Understand and apply primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention and workplace health promotion models;
- Understand and apply the principles of professional ethics and deontology

Educational Objectives of the School
- Adequately identify all chemical, physical, biological, and behavioral risk factors related to the workplace for various technologies, processing systems, and plant;
- Communicate to workers the health risks to which they are exposed;
- Express judgments of suitability, unsuitability, and suitability with prescriptions for various tasks and be able to identify hypersusceptible workers;
- Organize and manage a company or public preventive medicine service for workers;
- Know how to manage relationships with: the employer, the prevention and protection service manager, the worker safety officer, the public occupational medicine service, insurance and welfare agencies, and the judicial authorities;
- Establish health surveillance and biological monitoring for workers at risk based on appropriate toxicological and genetic studies;
- Inform workers of health checks and report the results;
- Collect a thorough work history, perform a comprehensive clinical examination, select diagnostic tests, and formulate targeted clinical diagnoses, identifying any causal links with occupational, environmental, or non-occupational risks;
- Analyze the causes, diagnose, and initiate emergency treatment for occupational injuries;
- Formulate recommendations for treatment and the clinical and functional recovery of workers with occupational diseases or injuries;
- Compile certificates and reports in accordance with regulations;
- Conduct epidemiological investigations to identify changes in workers' health or well-being related to occupational risks;
- Appropriately recommend preventive, ergonomic, and organizational measures and personal protective equipment.


These are similar or complementary objectives:
- The acquisition of targeted knowledge and skills in internal medicine and specialist branches covering all organs and systems, enabling the student to identify and diagnose dysfunctions and pathologies that interfere with or are related to work activities;
- The ability to interact with physicians and specialists from different branches of healthcare and the type of healthcare class.


Mandatory professional development activities to achieve the following educational objectives:
- Clinical work, which must be carried out for at least two years at the relevant hospital and include:
- Diagnostic imaging: participation in the evaluation of 60 tests
- Cardiovascular pathophysiology: participation in the performance and evaluation of 90 tests
- Respiratory pathophysiology: participation in the performance and evaluation of 90 tests
- Audiology: participation in the performance and evaluation of 80 tests
- Allergology: participation in the performance and evaluation of 60 tests
- Clinical-diagnostic work in occupational medicine: participation in the performance of 120 visits in the clinical department, day hospital, or outpatient clinic.
- Health surveillance: participation in the performance of 80 visits.
- Occupational ophthalmology: participation in the performance and evaluation of 60 tests.
- Participation in the implementation and evaluation, at public or private institutions, of: 6 on-site inspections, 2 environmental surveys, 2 risk assessments, 2 health surveillance plans, 2 statistical-epidemiological analyses and related health reports on anonymous collective data, 2 information and training initiatives, 2 accident risk assessments.
- Medical-surgical and specialized clinical-diagnostic activities: participation in the evaluation of 120 patients, either in day hospital or hospitalized in clinical wards.
- Rehabilitation: participation in the evaluation and rehabilitation treatment of 15 patients.
- Emergency and Emergency Department: follow-up of patients for medical, cardiology, and ophthalmology emergencies with a two-month internship.
- Participation in the evaluation of 120 occupational toxicology (biological monitoring), clinical pathology, neurophysiology, and neuropsychology tests.
- Participation in the evaluation of company data, questionnaires, and checklists for assessing work-related stress.
- Participation in the development and implementation of company health promotion protocols, with particular attention to the abuse of harmful substances (alcohol and drugs) in the workplace for high-risk roles.

The trainee may apply for the diploma after completing the professional development activities.

As part of the training program, the trainee must learn the scientific foundations of the School's approach to achieve full maturity and professional competence. This includes adequate ability to interpret scientific innovations and critical thinking that allows them to consciously manage both care and their own development. This may include participation in meetings, conferences, the production of scientific publications, and periods of attendance at qualified Italian and foreign institutions useful for their training.
Candidates are selected through an annual competition based on qualifications and examination. The call for applications is normally issued by 28 February of each year by a Ministerial Decree, and the number of places available is determined pursuant to art. 35, paragraph 2, of Legislative Decree no. 368 of 1999.
Eligible candidates are Medicine graduates who obtained their degree before the application deadline set out in the call for applications, provided that they pass the Medical Practitioner State Board Exam within the start date of the Postgraduate School programme
