On 18 February 2025, the Board of Directors appointed Angelo Casertano, current Managing Director of the Research Services Division, as Director General of the University of Milan. His term will end on 29 February 2028.

Angelo Casertano, current Managing Director of the Research Services Division, has been serving as interim Director General of the University of Milan since 1 March 2025.
After a degree in Foreign languages and literature, he started working at our University, where he specialised in research project management. Over the years, he took on increasing responsibilities in the management of programmes at university, national and international level (university and ministerial funds, PNRR, EU framework programmes, research contracts and agreements with companies and public entities) and our UNITECH platforms.
Among his roles at the University of Milan, Casertano was Head of the Technology Transfer Centre (2014-2017) and later sat on the Quality Assurance Board (2017-2023). He is one of the Senior Officers of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and a member of the Research Observatory of the University of Milan.
The Director General is responsible for the overall economic and financial management, administrative and technical processes and services, capital equipment and resources, and technical and administrative staff of the University.
A highly-qualified professional with a strong managerial track record, the Director General is appointed by the Board of Directors, on the proposal of the Rector, after consulting with the Academic Senate.
The Director General’s functions are stated in Article 58 of the University Statute.
Tiziana Manfredi is Deputy Director General of the University of Milan. She has been holding managerial positions at our University for 19 years and has been serving as Managing Director of the General Accounting, Budget and Financial Planning Division for 14 years.
Tiziana Manfredi obtained a degree in Economics and Business at Bocconi University and started working at the University of Milan in 1999, where she took on many different roles throughout her career. In 2005, she was appointed Managing Director of the General Accounting Division, and served as interim Managing Director of the Assets and Office Supplies Division from 2012 to 2016. Tiziana Manfredi already held the role of Deputy Director General from 1 October to 31 December 2018, and took office again on 3 October 2024.
The Director General's Secretariat:
- manages the Director General's institutional activities, taking care of his agenda, correspondence, meetings and trips
- handles relations with the Rector's, Deputy Rectors' and office heads' secretariats
- maintains confidential records
- manages the central desk that coordinates the activities of local help desks for administrative services.
