PROGRAM
The course will be characterized by thematic issues which will be presented in the class or , when necessary directly in the laboratories. Subjects discussed will include:
-Cloning techniques, genetic manipulation and heterologous expression;
-Stem cells: an experimental model to unravel pathophysiological mechanisms as well as element for tissue regeneration;
-Electrophysiological techniques (patch-clamp) on single cells;
-Analytical techniques for proteomics (, mass spectroscopy, microarrays);
-Capillary electrophoresis:
-Nanotechnologies;
-Techniques for advanced functional microscopy, confocal microscopy, electronic microscopy; cryo-EM:
-Optogenomics to study synaptic activity.
Next Generation Sequencing and identification of mutations associated with pathologies

REFERENCE MATERIAL
Teaching material will be made available online (Ariel website) and, distributed in the class as necessary

PREREQUISITES AND EXAMINATION PROCEDURES
The final exam will consist of written test normally including both a set of multiple-choice and essay questions. The oral examination will take place when the written test is not recognized as sufficient to determine the level of knowledge reached by the student. Students that attend the course will have the opportunity to take a dedicated multiple-choice test s in the middle and at the end of the course.

TEACHING METHODS
Traditional lectures supported by interactive material (powerpoint presentations).
