Learning objectives
- knowledge of the chemical groups, toxicants and drugs of abuse, their main mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses , toxic side effects;
- bsic knowledge of toxicology of chemical, physical and biological pollutants in the environment and in the work-place;
- knowledge of the main biochemical and toxicological interactions of drugs, drugs of abuse, enironmental and work-place pollutants;
- knowledge of systems and methods for control of substances of abuse, their main mechanisms of action, terapeutic uses, adverse effects;
- Basic knowledge of formulation, preparation and control of cosmetic products, and current legislation;
- basic knowledge of pharmaco-epidemiology;
Expected learning outcomes
- Knowledge of the fundaments of pharmacology (pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, interactions);
- Knowledge of the fundaments of toxicology;
- Understanding of the meaning of exposure limits and substance classification, and critical application;
- Understanding of the legal framework for the different categories of substances in the environment and work-place, and of the substances of abuse;
- Development of critical skills for the evaluation of exposure to chemicals, their monitoring and control;
- Knowledge of the fundaments on cosmetics, their production, including the GMP, pre- and post-marketing control, and safety issues provided by the EU Regulation 1223/2009.

Prerequisites for admission
There are no specific prerequisites other than those required for admission to the degree course.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The examination includes a written part, with open and multiple choice questions, and an oral part. Grades are based on the number of correct answers (multiple choice questions), completeness (open questions and oral exam) and clarity (oral exam) of the answers. The grade is registered and communicated to the student who can either accept or refuse it.
