Learning objectives
The workshop intends to promote self- and group-awareness through a metacognitive reflection on learning processes and on the skills and attitudes by which they are furthered. The workshop has a two objectives: to trigger a consciously active role in learning on the part of university students; and to bring out the philosophical discourse underlying the topics at issue.
Expected learning outcomes
The workshop aims to develop the following skills:

Critical thinking skills:
By the end of the workshop, students will display a sufficiently independent critical approach in selecting and interpreting the notions that are most relevant their area of study and to the broader socio-cultural context in which they operate

Communication skills:
By the end of the workshop:
- students will be able to effectively communicate the acquired knowledge and disseminate it to the general public;
- student will have developed basic IT skills concerning knowledge preservation and transfer.

Learning skills:
By the end of the workshop, students will have developed the learning skills required to continue their studies in keeping with their own research interests. In order to meet this objective, students will also develop relevant skills in the independent interpretation of sources and in the use of basic IT tool for bibliographic research.

Course syllabus
Unit "The map is, and is not, the territory: thinking about learning".
Features and components of learning processes as communication phenomena. Metacognitive reflection on competences, skills and attitudes related to the path of study in philosophy, through the reading and discussion of philosophical texts relevant to the questions raised by learning.
Exercises of interpretation of texts, films, concrete cases through group work, with presentations and discussions in the classroom.
Drafting of texts to support individual metacognitive reflection.

Teaching methods
The meetings include theoretical introductions in frontal mode with a large dialogue component, pair work, debates and discussions, in-class presentations by students' groups, production of texts fostering metacognitive reflection.

Assessment methods and Criteria
In order to pass, students are required to actively participate in the workshop activities, to prepare through a group-work a public speech to be given in front of the class, and to write the required papers. Students will not receive a specific grade for the workshop (pass/fail only).
Evaluation criteria
- autonomy of judgement
- ability to cooperate in a working group;
- ability to communicate and express oneself, also using information technology;
- ability to synthesise and write correctly;
- autonomy in the use and verification of sources, bibliographical and basic computer tools for research and scientific updating.
