Environmental Science and Sustainability

The Department of Environmental Science and Policies (ESP) proposes a program of studies that is unique in the Italian scenario, being well- balanced among formal disciplines, natural and economic sciences, legal, political and social sciences.

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science and Policy (SEPA, L32) provides the necessary skills to manage complex environmental realities from a managerial and scientific perspective. The course of study is multidisciplinary and is balanced across four scientific areas: legal-managerial sciences, natural sciences, formal sciences, and hard sciences. The teachings belonging to each area are developed in such a way as to build skills related to the understanding and managerial management of issues related to climate change and its impacts on the environment and humans.

The Master course in Environmental Change and Global Sustainability (ECGS, LM 75) provides advanced expertise in the hard- and life-science components of environmental studies as well as in their economic- and social-science components.

The interclass (LM 48 and LM 80) Master course in Analysis, Planning and Sustainable Management Of The Territories (APGEST) is organized to offer students a path that leads to training professionals in the territory. More precisely Land and Urban Planners are expected from LM 48 and Geographers from LM 80. These scientists will be able to describe the processes and the resulting landforms, to outline future landscape scenarios based on natural and anthropic driving-forces and to propose strategies and intervention plans for a sustainable management of the environmental, landscape and cultural resources of the territories.
