Master Coordinator
The Vocational Master in Hand Rehabilitation is a valuable training program for those wishing to specialize in the treatment of upper limb and hand disorders, offering both a solid theoretical foundation and extensive practical experience.
The advanced training program focuses on the acquisition of specific skills for upper limb and hand rehabilitation, both conservatively and post-surgically. The Master therefore aims to train healthcare professionals, such as physical and occupational therapists, to treat traumatic, degenerative, inflammatory, and malformative hand disorders, improving interaction with medical staff and achieving more effective clinical outcomes. Teaching includes lectures, practical exercises, seminars and a clinical internship.
The Vocational Master consists of 370 hours (37 credits) of face to face teaching and 180 hours (10 credits) of other form of training. The program includes 250 hours of internship (10 credits) and a final exam (3 credits) consisting of the preparation and discussion of a thesis.
Teaching is structured as follows:
Principles of surgery and rehabilitation of the hand;
Anatomy of the upper limb;
Assessment scales, Biofeedback, Issues in legal medicine;
Methodological approach to the scientific research on hand surgery;
Diagnosis and imaging: the pathology of the hand and clinical diagnoses;
Global rehabilitation of the patient: rehabilitation techniques and physical therapy;
Wrist disorders: surgical techniques and rehabilitative treatment;
Scientific Reading about the wrist;
Elements of hand surgery and rehabilitation;
Traumatic and inflammatory tendinitis and Dupuytren?s Disease;
Elements of surgery and rehabilitation of the hand;
Wrist and hand: bone and ligament injuries;
Elements of surgery and rehabilitation of the hand;
Functional surgery for spastic paralysis;
Pathology of spasticity;
Rehabilitative techniques;
Applied hand therapy techniques;
Algodystrophy and edema;
Surgical methods and approaches to complex trauma;
Wrist disorders;
Brachial plexus injury;
Anatomy, injuries in the plexus in children and adults;
A child's hand;
Introduction to the holistic rehabilitation of a child;
Deformities and rare pathologies in congenital hand deformities;
Holistic treatment of injuries associated with diabetes;
Approach to traumatic and complex hand disorders;
Stiffness in the hand: rehabilitative and surgical approaches;
Preventing stiffness;
Arthritis of the hand: joint surgery, rehabilitation, and economy;
Osteonecrosis of the carpal bone;
Specific skin disorders;
Types of scientific studies and microsurgery;
Orthopaedic problems in the upper limb;
Rehabilitation of spastic disorders in tetraplegic patients;
Motor control in the upper limb: pain and proprioception;
Neuromotor imaging: neuro-mirroring and rehabilitation;
The athlete's hand;
Principles of splinting: from immobilisation to precocious mobility.
Admitted applicants must pay an enrolment fee amounting to euro 4,.16.

To be eligible for the programme, students must hold a degree in the following class under former Ministerial Decree no. 270/2004: L/SNT2 Rehabilitative Care (solely for those holding degrees in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy).
The main employment opportunities are found in specific rehabilitation centers for the hand and upper limb.
