Erasmus Traineeship – outgoing mobility
The Erasmus+ programme provides you with the opportunity to carry out a traineeship abroad at a company, a research or training centre, or another organization.
Traineeship activities will be agreed with the department's Erasmus Coordinators and set out in your Learning Agreement for Traineeship.
Undergraduate and postgraduate traineeships have a minimum duration of 2 months and a maximum duration of 12 months; PhD student traineeships may last 5 to 30 days or 2 to 12 months.
Traineeships can be carried out in blended mode, i.e. combining physical and virtual mobility. Virtual mobilities are not given a scholarship.
Selected students will be awarded a scholarship, whose amount is set annually by the Italian Erasmus Agency (550 € or 500 € depending on the cost of living, as specified on the Call for applications).
Students can contact the office via InformaStudenti only (International > "Erasmus Traineeship").
Appointments (to book via Informastudenti > Appointments > Sportello "Mobilità Internazionale" > Desk type "online" > Topic "Erasmus Traineeship"). Tue 10-12; Thurs 14-16, either on MS Teams or phone. Students are invited to make themselves available on both channels on the chosen day.
For partner universities only: [email protected]
- All undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD students (you can apply as early as the first year). The traineeship must be completed before discussing the degree thesis.
- Those who have completed their degree or PhD programme, provided that they are enrolled at the time of application and that the traineeship is carried out within 12 months from graduation.
Calls for applications are usually published twice a year and offer different traineeship opportunities. Applicants to the Spring selection may choose a destination campus autonomously, whereas the Fall selection offers internship destinations based on existing agreements between the University of Milan and host institutions.
Applications must be submitted online through the Elixform platform, as noted in the call, along with the required attachments.
The Erasmus 2021/2027 programme includes the UK among the possible traineeship destinations.
If you are interested in this destination, we invite you to refer beforehand to the official government's website to learn how the Visa application process works. Please consider additional time to receive the visa and any extra costs you might incur into before applying.
Students selected for an Erasmus+ Traineeship must complete a set of mandatory requirements before the start of their traineeship. Departure is permitted only once all the prescribed procedures have been correctly completed.
Submitting the required documentation through InformaStudenti is a necessary condition for the disbursement of the mobility grant. The Mobility Agreement must be submitted before departure; all remaining documents must be uploaded by the beginning of the traineeship, unless otherwise specified. Any withdrawals must be communicated through InformaStudenti – section INTER Erasmus traineeship.
Complete and sign the Mobility Agreement and submit it through InformaStudenti, under the section INTER Erasmus traineeship. Only PDF files are accepted. Each student will receive their Mobility Agreement -in Italian- at their institutional e‑mail address prior to departure. The traineeship duration indicated in the Mobility Agreement cannot be changed, except in exceptional cases to be agreed with the Mobility office.
You can find the English translation below. Please note this is for reference only: you have to complete the Italian document received by e-mail.
The Learning Agreement (L.A.) must be signed, with a date prior to the start of the traineeship, by the Erasmus+ Traineeship coordinator of the University of Milan and by the supervisor at the host organisation.
Complete the dedicated Google Form to select the preferred payment method for the mobility grant. Each student will receive the link via e‑mail prior to departure. The form must be completed only once and does not generate a confirmation e‑mail.
All students completing their traineeship during their studies are covered by accident and third‑party liability insurance.
Trainees carrying out their mobility after graduation must pay the required fee for insurance coverage. The policies are valid annually until 30 September; students starting their traineeship in September must make two payments (one for each annual period). Payment must be made by bank transfer, and the receipt must be uploaded to InformaStudenti under the category Erasmus traineeship. The bank transfer details will be sent via e‑mail.
Students enrolled in a Medical Specialization School must hold the insurance coverage required to carry out their activities abroad.
Upon arrival at the host organisation, the trainee must upload the Certificate of Arrival, signed by the host organisation’s supervisor, to InformaStudenti > Erasmus Traineeship. The date indicated on the certificate constitutes the official start of the mobility.
During the mobility period, it is possible to update the Learning Agreement in the section During the mobility, should any changes to the planned activities be required. All modifications must be agreed upon and approved by both the host organisation and the University’s Erasmus coordinator. The revised and signed document must be submitted through InformaStudenti > Erasmus Traineeship.
For any requests to extend the traineeship period, the trainee must contact both the host organisation and the Erasmus+ Traineeship coordinator at the University of Milan to obtain authorization, no later than one month before the planned end date. The approval received must then be uploaded to InformaStudenti > Erasmus Traineeship for the issuance and signature of the new Mobility Agreement.
