Coerentemente con le finalità della classe LM-55 Scienze Cognitive, il corso di Laurea Magistrale in Scienze Cognitive e Processi Decisionali (SCO) intende fornire ai propri laureati una formazione avanzata e di tipo multidisciplinare (psicologica, filosofica, neuroscientifica metodologica e tecnologica) sui temi delle scienze cognitive, con particolare riferimento allo sviluppo di conoscenze teoriche e competenze applicative per una comprensione profonda dei processi cognitivi e per l'analisi e la gestione dei processi decisionali individuali e collettivi in contesti complessi. Il percorso di studio si sviluppa a partire dagli insegnamenti di base che caratterizzano le scienze cognitive per poi focalizzarsi su aspetti più specifici quali i meccanismi decisionali applicati all'ambito sanitario e i gli aspetti neurocognitivi implicati nella presa di decisione. Inoltre, considerato il legame sempre più stretto tra le Scienze Cognitive e le tecnologie, l'intero corso di laurea è caratterizzato dalla presenza di insegnamenti specifici relativi al ruolo di queste ultime nella progettazione di sistemi evoluti a supporto delle decisioni umane, dell'interazione cervello-macchina e dell'analisi dei dati sanitari oggi sempre più numerosi e complessi.

Principalmente le funzioni che i laureati in Scienze Cognitive e Processi Decisionali potranno ricoprire in qualità di esperti formati nelle scienze cognitive riguardano le seguenti aree: la gestione della qualità e della sicurezza nei processi produttivi; l'analisi delle decisioni aziendali e, in particolare, in ambito medico e sanitario; l'analisi del rischio clinico; la progettazione e l'implementazione di progetti di ricerca sia di base sia applicata (project management) che richiedano competenze nell'ambito delle scienze cognitive; la formazione in ambito aziendale; la gestione di team di lavoro interdisciplinari; l'analisi dei processi cognitivi e organizzativi sottostanti agli errori o alle disfunzioni organizzative.
Competenze associate alla funzione:
I laureati in Scienze Cognitive e Processi Decisionali sono esperti nell'analisi e nella progettazione di interventi atti a migliorare la qualità e l'appropriatezza delle decisioni e a ridurre il rischio di errore. Grazie allo studio interdisciplinare e all'integrazione fra neuroscienze e le scienze cognitive applicate, i laureati avranno le competenze per trasferire le conoscenze acquisite a vari ambiti applicativi, fra cui l'analisi e la gestione dei processi cognitivi, emotivi e creativi, l'analisi delle interazioni uomo-macchina, e la progettazione di percorsi basati sull'uso di strumenti tecnologici evoluti, la gestione di sistemi organizzati e lo studio di ambienti complessi.
Infine, i laureati avranno la padronanza di strumenti operativi utilizzabili nel governo del rischio clinico, nella produzione di percorsi di formazione e di miglioramento organizzativo finalizzati a ridurre il rischio di errori e aumentare la resilienza organizzativa, e a interpretare la complessità dei dati sanitari e ad utilizzarli nel pieno rispetto degli aspetti etici, oltre che ad utilizzare la tecnologia come supporto ai processi decisionali che regolano e motivano i comportamenti nell'ambito della salute.
Sbocchi occupazionali:
I laureati in Scienze Cognitive e Processi Decisionali potranno svolgere tali attività in forma libero-professionale e anche di consulenza presso enti pubblici e privati, in particolare nell'ambito di:
- enti di ricerca privati e pubblici;
- aziende private;
- aziende ospedaliere;
- pubbliche amministrazioni;
- enti di formazione.
I laureati avranno inoltre acquisito conoscenze e competenze che permetteranno loro di perseguire ulteriori obiettivi formativi di alta formazione (come, per esempio, dottorati di ricerca): potranno applicare competenze avanzate nelle scienze cognitive utilizzando metodologie simulative, osservative e sperimentali al fine di verificare ipotesi scientifiche partendo dallo studio dei sistemi intelligenti, siano essi naturali o artificiali.
Il corso di studi fornirà inoltre le competenze necessarie per effettuare attività di ricerca nell'ambito dell'analisi e sviluppo di sistemi legati alle prestazioni cognitive umane e della progettazione avanzata di interfacce e di sistemi ergonomici.

The Degree in Cognitive Science and Decision Making Processes has always developed a big interest in internationalization, defining exchange programs with various European universities. At present, active exchange programs involve University of Porto, Paris (Università Paris VI, Istitute Jean Nicod - Ecole Normale Supérieure and master in cognitive science COGMASTER)and Maastricht. Thanks to the Erasmus Program, students can attend courses, internship, exams, and sometimes the elaboration of the thesis in different cultural context compared with the Italian one.
Students of the Degree in Cognitive Science and Decision Making Processes can plan their Erasmus during the first or the second year with a duration of 3, 6 and 9 month supported by a grant.
Foreseen training during the period of study must be approved by the responsible of the Erasmus program of each degree course. All the proposed activities (agreed with foreign university through learning agreement) are compatible with the foreseen study plan and enable to collect the required CFU.
Grades obtained by the student in the other European Countries are converted using the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) table. The recognition in career is 20 CFU for 3 months stay, 30 CFU for 6 month and 60 CFU for 9 month.
The Double Degree program
Besides the Erasmus exchange programs, the University of Milan has stipulated a Double Degree conjoint agreement with the University of Maastricht (The Netherlands) which involves the Master in Cognitive Science and Decision Making Processes (University of Milan) and the Master of Science in Psychology (University of Maastricht). Such a program offers to the students of the biennium the possibility to spend the first year at the University of Milan, acquiring knowledge and basic skills and then to specialize in their specific area of interest attending the second year by the partner (host) University. Once obtained the established academic requirements by both universities, students of the Double Degree receive both the Laurea Magistrale in Cognitive Science and Decision Making Processes and the graduate degree (usually Master of Science) from the partner institution.

The course is subject to an enrolment cap pursuant to Law no. 264/1999.
The number of available spots is set each year by the designated academic bodies, based on the resources (facilities, personnel, and equipment) available for the programme. Admission into the programme is based on an assessment intended to verify the student's baseline knowledge and educational background. The admission test consists of a written, multiple-choice exam intended to gauge the student's ability in terms of logical reasoning, reading comprehension (in Italian), logic, general biology, introductory statistics, and general psychology.

Students who have obtained a degree in one of the following classes (and those who hold an equivalent degree from a foreign institution which has been deemed sufficient) are eligible to apply:

- L-SNT/1 Healthcare professions, nursing, and midwifery sciences;

Students enrolled in one of these programmes with an expected graduation date prior to the deadline set each year by the Academic Senate will likewise be eligible to apply.
Students holding a degree in a different class (as well as those holding a foreign degree deemed equivalent) may also be considered for admission if they have earned at least 30 academic credits (30 CFU) from any combination of the following subject areas (SSD):

The tuition fees for students enrolled in Bachelor's, Master's and single-cycle degree programmes are divided into two instalments with different calculation methods and payment schedules:
- The amount of the first instalment is the same for all students
- The amount of the second instalment varies according to the ISEE University value, the degree programme and the student status (on track / off track for one year or off track for more than a year)
