Learning objectives
The course will focus the principles of animal nutrition, including digestive physiology and metabolism of companion and farm animals; nutrient properties and requirement for enhancing health and different aspects of animal production and performance; principles of feed evaluation and ration formulation will also be given.

Course syllabus
OBJECTIVE OF THE MODULE:
The course encompasses basic aspects of nutrition, metabolism and utilization of nutrients in ruminants and monogastrics. The fundamental issues of feeds in animal nutrition will be addressed. Knowledge of plant layout, feed manufacturing and quality assurance will also be given.

SYLLABUS:
Lectures
Introduction: metabolism and nutrients utilization, role of nutrition in health promoting (1 hour)
Carbohydrates: classification, role, sources, utilization in monogastrics and ruminantsl (3 hours)
Proteins: role, sources, utilization in monogastrics and ruminat (2 hours)
Lipids: role, sources, utilization in monogastrics and ruminants (2 hours)
Minerals: role, functions, mineral content in feed, dietary supplementation (2 hours)
Vitamins: role, functions, feed content, dietary supplementation (2 hours)
Energy repartitioning, nutritive value of and nutritive level (2 hours)
Chemical analysis of feed, digestibility, feed processing (2 hours)

Practical acitvities

Nutrition as applied to the formulation of practical domestic animals rations with particular reference to animal health, food safety and product quality

Weaning and growing heifers (1 hour)
Nutrition and diseases prevention (ketosis,milk fever, acidosis, displaced abomasum, Reproductive disorders, Laminitis) (2 hours).
Relationships between nutrition and quality/safety milk (2 hours)

Beef cattle
Feeding beef cattle (2 hours)
Nutritional diseases prevention (2 hours)

Pigs
Reproductive efficiency of the sow (1 hour)
Nutritional strategy at weaning (2 hours)

Course syllabus
OBJECTIVE OF THE MODULE:
This course focuses on the classes of nutrients including their digestion, use and sources for dogs, cats and horses. Nutrient requirements and feeding standards for reproduction, lactation, growth, work and maintenance are included. Feed requirements, feed additives and labeling requirements are also discussed. Attention will also be given to characteristics of common feedstuffs and to formulating rations and nutritional programs for animal health.

Nutrient requirements in lifestage (maintenance, reproduction, growing, senior) (2 hours)
Nutritional prevention of growing pathologies (2 hours)
Feeding working dos (2 hours)
Nutrient requirements of cat in maintenance, reproduction, growing, senior (2 hours)
Commercial food: characteristics, processing, communication (4 hours)
Principles of dietary management in diseases (4 hours)
Horse
Feeding the breeding mare and the foal (1 hour)
Feeding for performance and nutrients during exercise (1 hour)
Nutritional prevention of diseases (2 hours)
