According to an evaluation by the Research Evaluation Steering Committee (CIRV), the Area of Medicine at the University of Milan rates at first place in Italy for scientific research in medicine and carries out scientific studies that range from the more traditional research areas to molecular medicine, genomics and proteomics.

Its academic programmes cover all areas in the biomedical and health fields for those who would like to work in this sector, including also several international programmes and resulting in a total of 37 bachelor's degree programmes, with tracks dedicated to:

  • Medicine (3 different Single-Cycle Degrees),

  • Dentistry and Dental Prosthesis,

  • International Medical School,

  • Healthcare Professions (22 Bachelors),

  • Biomedical Omics,

  • Medical biotechnology and molecular medicine,

  • Medical biotechnology,

  • Cognitive Science and Decision-making Processes;

  • Management of health systems and organisations.

58 Postgraduate Schools in fields of medicine and healthcare, 6 doctoral programmes and a wide range of Vocational Masters Degrees and advanced courses complete the educational offer.

Conscientious objection to animal testing

The Faculty of Medicine recognizes students’ right to conscientious objection, guaranteeing exemption from educational activities that involve attending laboratory exercises in which experiments are scheduled on live or dead animals, as established by the “Regulation on conscientious objection to animal testing” (Law No 413/1993).

In compliance with the educational objectives of specific degree courses, students are guaranteed the achievement of scientific and practical knowledge for passing the exams through the appropriate recommendation of partial replacement study methods by the teaching staff.
