Those earning a degree in Nursing are healthcare professionals, vested with authority under Ministry of Health Decree no. 739 of 14 September 1994, and Law no. 42 of 26 February 1999 (as subsequently amended); they are responsible for providing general nursing support in the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation of diseases and illnesses, as well as palliative care. Their skills include technical skills, patient education, and a proper bedside manner. Their main functions are to prevent disease, to provide care for the sick and disabled of all ages, whether suffering from acute or chronic problems, and to provide patient education. They conduct their professional activities in public or private hospitals and clinics across the region, or in-home healthcare, whether as an employee or as an independent professional.
A nurse is a professional who provides services in the healthcare arena, and who is responsible for providing general nursing care to patients of all ages in terms of prevention, treatment, palliative care, and rehabilitation. Nurses' skills include technical expertise, patient education, and a proper bedside manner.
This degree authorises graduates to work as nurses in public or private hospitals and clinics across the region, or in-home healthcare, whether as an employee or as an independent contractor.

To be admitted into the degree programme, a candidate must have a secondary-school diploma, or similar diploma earned overseas and deemed equivalent.
Enrolment in the degree programme is subject to a cap, set annually in accordance with Art. 1, Law no. 264 (2 August 1999).
The number of students who may be admitted into the first year of the programme is set each year pursuant to a decree of the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR), based on findings provided by the university in terms of available instructional, classroom, and clinical resources (human and otherwise), as well as the demand for healthcare professionals in the practice of nursing as determined by the Region of Lombardy, and the Ministry of Health.
Candidates, at the pre-enrolment phase, must rank their Course Section preferences (from 1-16). Those preferences will be taken into account as part of the student's ranking following the entrance exam.
The entrance exam will be administered as a national exam, generally in the month of September. The confirmed date, and the method of administration, will be set forth in a MUR decree.
Additional learning requirements (OFA)
Admission into the Programme will be determined pursuant to Art. 4 of Law no. 264/1999, which requires that candidates demonstrate sufficient acumen in those subject areas enumerated in a Ministerial Decree establishing both the content and the method of administration for all programmes subject to a national cap. Provisional admission will be offered if and when contemplated for those students completing a secondary-school diploma.
A score at or above the minimum mark set in the call for applications in the admission test will suffice to show the student has the requisite baseline of knowledge for the programme.
Students who score less than 50% on the Biology and Chemistry questions on the entrance exam will be required to finish a set of additional learning requirements (OFA). These prerequisites may be met through specifically assigned remedial work. Any failure to complete the OFA will make it impossible for the student to sit for the General Science exams.

The Degree Programme in Nursing has a long-standing tradition of international exchanges which began with the founding of the Erasmus programme. The Erasmus programme (which stands for European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) was founded in 1987 thanks to the efforts of the European Community. It gives students the opportunity to complete a for-credit study-abroad period on an international campus partnering with the student's home campus. In terms of study-abroad options, the Degree in Nursing currently offers Year III students pre-professional opportunities in the form of an internship. To that end, the University now boasts prestigious European partnerships in Belgium (Brussels and Antwerp), Spain (Tenerife, Albacete, Melilla, Santiago de Compostela, Valencia La Fe, Valencia Castello, Madrid, Vigo, Lleida and Huelva), Portugal (Moniz and Setubal) France (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) and Poland (Danzig). At some of these campuses, students have the option to work in a hospital or in the community, including hospices or nursing clinics, if available. The Erasmus Plus programme contemplates, in addition to the bilateral agreements, the possibility of two instructors for each Campus to have international mobility. The study-abroad period is three months, with the possibility of earning 20 ECTS, which transfer in as 20 academic credits for the student. In addition to meetings planned each year by the University, thanks to a standing committee for internationalisation made up of students and instructors, at least one meeting per year is planned for returning students to meet and give advice to those heading out on their study abroad. Our experience over the last few years has taught us that these opportunities allow for the exchange of practical information and valuable contacts amongst the students. At the end of the study-abroad period, the standing committee is requested to provide a written report which is shared with outgoing students, and it allows instructors to measure student satisfaction with the international programmes.
Student feedback has been roundly positive, finding inspiration for their thesis development, and developing contacts that have served them well over the years, including in terms of employment opportunities after graduation. The Erasmus experience and international exchange are not just a university experience, but an opportunity to learn from, and live with, persons of a different culture and language. It's about more than learning a different language: it's a chance for the student to take on responsibilities, and to begin to feel a part of a professional community that includes students from different countries.

Attendance of all activities, whether theory or practice, contemplated in the study programme is mandatory. The logistical changes ushered in for part-time students by Art. 11, paragraph 7, subpart (i) of Ministerial Decree no. 270 (22 October 2004) are not compatible with the mandatory timeframes, and pre-professional training intrinsic to this degree programme, nor the mandatory scheduling and organisational demands required of the students' clinical practice. To be allowed to sit for the for-credit exam, students must have attended at least 75% of the educational programming contemplated for each course, whether single-discipline or multi-disciplinary course. The lead instructor for the programme will verify that the student has met the attendance requirements.

Il superamento dell'esame annuale di tirocinio è condizione necessaria e obbligatoria per ottenere l'iscrizione all'anno successivo. Al fine di assicurare una progressione di carriera equilibrata e coerente con la formazione professionale, per ottenere l'iscrizione al secondo anno lo studente deve aver superato almeno cinque esami relativi ai corsi di insegnamento, di cui:
- Anatomia e fisiologia umana;
- Scienze infermieristiche generali;
- Scienze infermieristiche cliniche 1;
- Tirocinio 1.
Per ottenere l'iscrizione al terzo anno lo studente deve aver superato almeno undici esami, di cui, oltre agli esami necessari per ottenere l'iscrizione al secondo anno:
- Scienze di base;
- Scienze infermieristiche cliniche 2;
- Medicina e farmacologia;
- Tirocinio 2.
La frequenza al tirocinio clinico del primo anno è condizionata alla presentazione - da parte dello studente - della firma di frequenza al corso di insegnamento di Scienze infermieristiche cliniche 1.
Gli studenti che abbiano accumulato al termine del terzo periodo d'esame di ciascun anno di corso un debito cumulativo in carriera superiore a tre esami o non abbiano superato l'esame annuale di tirocinio sono iscritti come ripetenti ovvero, se iscritti al terzo anno, come fuori corso.
La condizione di ripetente dura l'intero anno accademico e viene modificata a partire dall'anno accademico successivo alla regolarizzazione della posizione.
