Open semester exams
The three end-of-course exams will be held one after the other, on the same dates and at the same time in all universities that have organised the open semester. There will be two exam dates:
- 20 November 2025 (exams start at 11:00)
- 10 December 2025 (exams start at 11:00)
Each exam will last 45 minutes, with a 15-minutes break between one exam and the other.
Each exam consists of 15 multiple-choice questions and 16 sentence completion questions, for a total of 31 questions.
Exams are graded on a scale of thirty (30), plus 1 point for honours (lode). For the purpose of the ranking, points are awarded as follows:
- 1 point for each correct answer;
- 0 points for no answer;
- minus 0.10 points for each wrong answer.
A maximum of 93 points can be awarded for the three exams together.
If you fail any of your exams on the first date or decide not to accept the grade obtained, you will be able to re-sit your exam(s) on the second available date.
Candidates with disabilities and/or SLD who wish to be granted accommodations and aids during the exams must complete the online request form.
At the end of the teaching period, the University has verified students' compliance with minimum attendance requirements for each of the three courses included in the open semester.
The file Participants list – 1st exam date contains the ID number of all students who have been registered for the exams, including details on which exams they can or cannot take.
On 20 November 2025 all participants, regardless of the number of exams they must take, must arrive to the exam venue at 09:00 carrying the valid identity document indicated during registration.
The exams will take place on the Città Studi campus; the exact rooms is posted in the file Aule di svolgimento esami semestre aperto - Appello 1.
On the dedicated page of the Universitaly portal, you can find information about the open semester and the exam guidelines.
The guidelines contain important details about the procedures to follow and how to complete the answer form.
The results of the first exam date will be made available on 3 December 2025 on Universitaly, in each candidate's user area.
Within 48 hours from publication of the results, candidates can reject one or more of their grades via Universitaly. If they don't, their grades will be deemed as accepted and recorded on their academic records. Please note that rejecting your grade(s) is irreversible. If you do that, only the grade(s) you obtain on the second exam date will be taken into account for the national ranking. We also remind you that you need to score at least 18/30 in all three exams to be included in the national ranking.
Candidates can view the grades they obtained on the first date, together with their exam papers and personal info sheet, in their user area on Universitaly.
All students who met the minimum attendance requirements by 10 November — as illustrated in the section Open semester: teaching organisation — and:
- failed one or more exams on the first exam date or
- rejected one or more of the grades obtained on the first exam date or
- were registered for the first exam date, but did not take it
will be automatically registered for the second exam date (10 December 2025).
The list of all registered candidates will be published in this section and will specify the exams for which each candidate is registered.
On 10 December 2025, all candidates must arrive at the exam venue at 09:00, regardless of the number of exams they must take. An original and valid ID is required to take the exam.
- For the second exam date, students are assigned to the same room they were on the first exam date.
- Please refer to the guidelines on the open semester exams for information on what to expect on the exam date and instructions on how to fill the answer sheet.
