Open semester: teaching organisation
We would like to inform you that the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) has published the official Ministerial Guidelines concerning the procedures for the Open Semester exams
Enrolment for the three Open Semester exams scheduled for 20 November will be carried out automatically by the Student Administration Office. Candidates will be registered only for the exams in which they have met the attendance requirement.
During the open semester, students will attend three 6-credit courses, for a total of 18 CFU: Biology, Chemistry and Introductory Biochemistry, and Physics. Each course lasts 75 hours. Course syllabi are available at the top right of this section.
Each course will be structured as follows:
- 30 hours of dual-mode teaching in September: students can opt for in-person attendance, booking their seat via the LezioniUnimi app, or attend these classes remotely via Microsoft Teams
- 45 hours of online asynchronous teaching in October and November: these are video-classes that will be uploaded on myAriel platform and will remain available for the whole two-month period.
Attendance to all course activities (both synchronous and asynchronous) is mandatory.
At the end of the open semester, students will be required to fill out a satisfaction survey for each course, so as to evaluate the quality of teaching.
To access the University online services, please use the credentials you received after your enrolment.
Check your University email on a regular basis: that is where you will receive all official communications
For students enrolled in the open semester, in-person classes will start on 1 September and end on 26 September 2025.
These classes are intended to prepare students for the three end-of-course exams. Students can try the end-of-course exams twice. Based on the scores obtained in these exams, the Ministry of University and Research will draw up a national ranking list of all students, to identify those admitted to the second semester.
Teaching will be delivered in dual mode, both on campus and remotely, as in-person classes will be livestreamed via Microsoft Teams.
Students can check the teaching group to which they have been assigned by looking for their matriculation number in the attached file. The class schedules and venues for each group are published in the Web Agenda and the LezioniUnimi app, which can be downloaded from the iOS or Android app store. Once you have downloaded the LezioniUnimi app, adjust the settings in your profile by selecting the group to which you have been assigned and the three open semester courses.
For students opting for in-person attendance, the 30 hours of synchronous classes will take place in the University's buildings in the Città Studi area. For organisational reasons, we recommend that students book their seat at least one week in advance, via the LezioniUnimi app. For those choosing livestreaming, Teams will be activated closer to the start of lessons; the link will be available on the MyAriel learning website.
It is imperative for each student to attend these classes, whether in person or online, according to the times and venues indicated for the teaching group to which they have been assigned, otherwise their attendance will not be registered. Please read the attached guide to learn how to properly register your attendance.
After the 30 hours of dual synchronous classes, the remaining 45 hours of teaching will be delivered asynchronously and fully remotely in October and November, via a series of video-classes that will be uploaded on myAriel.
Students are required to complete at least 51% of the total 75 hours (dual-mode teaching + asynchronous video-classes) in order to be admitted to the end-of-course exams.
Learning websites: starting August 29, 2025, the myAriel educational websites dedicated to open semester courses are active.
As indicated in the Learning Agreement, candidates must complete the attendance for asynchronous teaching by the mandatory deadline of November 10, 2025.
