Funding a PhD programme
Companies and institutions can fund scholarships for PhD programmes by entering into specific agreements with the University of Milan.
A scholarship can be used to support specific research projects, with the commitment of the company to cover costs for the duration of the programme, including:
- the amount of the scholarship, which is determined annually by the Board of Directors
- INPS contribution under the separate management scheme, as envisaged by art. 2 of Ministerial Decree of 11 September 1998, at the percentage rate currently applicable
- a contribution to the running costs of the PhD programme, which is determined annually by the Board of Directors
- an additional sum corresponding to no less than 10% of the amount of the scholarship for research activities in Italy and abroad, varying according to the type of programme
- a sum corresponding to no less than 50% of the amount of the scholarship to cover any research activities carried out abroad, authorised by the Faculty of Instructors, pursuant to art. 9, paragraph 3 of Ministerial Decree of 14 December 2021
- the sums required to cover any greater costs arising from the implementation of legislative and regulatory provisions (increase in the amount of the scholarship and INPS contributions).
Companies and institutions interested in funding scholarships for a doctoral programme must contact the coordinator of that specific PhD and send a letter of intent via email to the PhD and Post Graduate Programmes Office, using the standard form provided below.
Departments of the University of Milan
Departments wishing to fund scholarships for the entire duration of a PhD programme must approve the establishment of these scholarships during a Department Council meeting. The resolution for the funding of scholarships (template available below) must then be shared with the PhD and Post Graduate Programmes Office and the coordinator of the PhD programme, for further processing within the Faculty of Instructors.
You can contact the Office to:
- draw up agreements
- issue funding
- provide the necessary financial guarantees for the funding of doctoral programmes
- request the acceptance of specific regulations and the adoption of particular administrative procedures.
