Right to parenting

Pregnancy and motherhood

Women who are PhD or postgraduate school students are entitled to maternity protection.

In the case of maternity, it is necessary to communicate pregnancy by following the instructions available on the university portal: La Statale@work

Women who i) are doctoral students benefiting from scholarships, ii) are enrolled in the separate management of autonomous work through INPS, and iii) are not insured through other obligatory forms of social security (Enpam, Enpav etc.), are entitled to the maternity benefits provided by INPS. The indemnity is paid by INPS upon the request of the interested party, accompanied by the required certification, according to the member’s category. For more information, visit the INPS website.

For women who are doctoral students with scholarships, and thus enrolled in INPS separate management, the University of Milan has resolved that benefits be granted for the 5 months of mandatory leave of absence, covering the difference between the INPS maternity allowance and the gross amount of the doctoral scholarship for the 5 months of compulsory leave.

Interested PhD students can apply for benefits, after receiving the INPS allowance, by sending an email to: [email protected]

How to communicate birth

Pursuant to article 46 of the D.P.R. no. 445 of 28/12/2000, it is necessary to submit the substitutive declaration of certification (birth communication form) to [email protected] as an attachment, within 30 days from the date of birth.

If the postgraduate student wishes to take a longer period of leave, she must download the optional pregnancy leave form and send it to [email protected] as an attachment, within 15 days from the expiration of the maternity leave.

Emoluments

During maternity leave, doctors in postgraduate school training are granted exclusively the fixed part of the emoluments, for an overall period of up to one year in addition to the legal duration of the programme.
