Learning objectives
To provide imformation on food producing animal feeding, the final goal is to teach how to improve animal production efficiency through animal nutrition.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge of animal nutrition and feeding
Ability to formulate compound feeds and rations for monogastrics, ruminants and poultry

Teaching methods
The lectures will be held on Microsoft Teams platform. The students will be able to attend them in synch, following the didactic calendar but also asynchronously, because the lessons will be recorded on the platform. "Nutrizione comparata" course will be held asynchronously by recorded lessons available on Ariel website of the course.

The program will not change. Student are advised to refers to the latest study material available.

Assessment method and evaluation criteria
The examination will be in oral form through Microsoft Teams. If there will be the chance to perform examination in presence, each teacher for each examination date will communicate if it will be held on Teams or in class.

The exams is aimed at assessing:
- the achievement of the objectives
- the ability to apply the knowledge and understanding
- Student's ability of independent judgment
- Student's mastery of specific language

Nutrients: protein, carbohydrates and lipids (4 hours)
The minerals and vitamins (2 hours)
The energy (2 hours)
The digestibility (2 hours)
Antioxidants (1 hours)
The nutrition of dairy cattle and beef (3 hours)
The nutrition of the horse (2 hours)
The nutrition of the pig (2 hours)
The nutrition of the dog and cat (2 hours)

Modulo: 'H13-133-B' - 'Animal feed evaluation'
AIM: classification and analysis of feedstuffs, provision of the basic principles for recognition and evaluation of feed chemical and nutritional properties.
LECTURES
Feedstuffs: classification and chemical composition (1 hour)
Feed analysis: sampling, chemical analysis, NIRS, in vivo and in vitro analysis (3 hours)
Composition and nutritional properties of:
Cereals (3 hours)
Oil seed and by-products (2 hours)
Products of animal origin as feed (2 hours)

AIM: Knowledge of plant layout and manufacturing operations of feed and premix industry. Knowledge
of quality assurance. Feed and premix formulation by hand and by software.

Feed production in Italy, in the EU and worldwide (1 hour)
Plant layout and manufacturing operations of feed and premix industry (4 hours)
Feed and premix formulation for monogastrics (4 hours)

Modulo: 'H13-133-D' - 'Unita' didattica: Diet formulation for ruminants'.
AIM: To study the nutritional management of polygastric animals with particular references to the feed characteristics, the type of feeding and the relationship between nutrition, animal welfare and farming management.

Principal diets constituents, concepts of forages, concentrates and peNDF (2 hours)
Proteins, lipids, vitamins and minerals (1 hour)
Mais, whole grain silage, grain and ear mash (1 ore)
Factors affecting feed assumption, ruminal kinetics and feed turnover (2 hours)
Forages: grasses, legumes, hays, silo hays, grass silo (1 hour)
Energy and protein concentrates (1 hour)
Brans, Beat pulps, Soybeans, Distillers, Beer threshers, Ca Soaps, Additives (1 hour)
Dairy cow: feeding plan and dry period, BCS, Fecal score (2 hours)

Modulo: 'H13-133-E' - 'Diet formulation for monogastric animals'.
AIM: Considering the importance of diet composition for enhance pigs growth performances and health, the aim of the course is to provide knowledge about right diet formulation in relation to the different physiological phases

Assessment methods and Criteria
Students have to pass an exam (written and oral), that is aimed to verify the acquisition, the right understanding and the capacity to rielaborate the information provided in the course. Students have to gain a minimum of 18/30 mark to pass the exam.
