Curricular internships at the University of Milan for students enrolled at other Italian or foreign universities

Students enrolled at other Italian or foreign universities wishing to do a curricular internship at the University of Milan are required to follow the procedure below.

The procedure is entirely managed by the Internship Office of COSP for the whole University of Milan. The University staff is therefore invited not to sign autonomously any documentation issued by other universities.

These guidelines do not apply to foreign students on international mobility programmes (Erasmus+, etc.).

Activation procedure

Students wishing to activate an internship are required to previously contact the organisational unit of their interest (Department, Office, etc.) to check its availability to host them, and identify a staff member of the University of Milan (professor, researcher or technical, administrative and library staff) willing to serve as tutor.

Please note that the unit of interest has the right to accept or decline the request on the basis of its organisation and resources. Curricular internships may not be remunerated.

N.B. The Internship Office of COSP can activate internships only for the organisational units of the University of Milan. Requests involving external facilities (i.e. hospitals) have to be sent directly to such facilities.

Once the student has been accepted for the internship, he/she is required to fill the form “Internship for students from other universities”, available on this page and send it to [email protected] at least 30 days before the expected start date of the internship.

The COSP Internship Office of the University of Milan will contact the student and his/her university to fill the necessary documents for the activation of the internship:

  • Internship agreement and training programme (for students enrolled at Italian universities);
  • Internship agreement (for students enrolled at foreign universities).

Times for the activation of the internship may vary according to the documents required by the student’s university, as well as to potential amendments required by the COSP Internship Office to comply with the policies of the University of Milan.

Documentation can be submitted either in Italian or in English.

N.B. The COSP Internship Office may not ensure the activation of the internship if the documentation provided by the student’s university does not meet the requirements of the University of Milan with regard to internships (insurance cover, privacy policy, anti-corruption policy, etc.).

In order to start the internship, the student must have completed the general and specific training on work safety and start the procedure for health surveillance, in accordance with the documentation signed by the University of Milan and the student’s university. The Internship Office of COSP will provide the student with the necessary instructions.

The Internship Office of the University of Milan will inform the student about the procedure to be followed for the activation of the internship.

Such procedure has to be completed and all the documents signed by the parties before the start of the internship.

Any modification after the start of the internship must be agreed beforehand and formalised by all the parties (student, host unit, student’s university and Internship Office of COSP) in accordance with the applicable procedures.
