State Board Exams
State Board Exams are exams that qualify graduates to practice certain professions and register with the relevant professional associations.
The University of Milan is an examination centre authorised by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) to award the qualification to practice the following professions:
- Biologist
- Chemist
- Agronomist and Forester
- Pharmacist
- Geologist
- Medical Practitioner
- Dentist
- Food Technologist
- Veterinarian

In accordance with Ministerial Circular No. 2100 of 6 June 2012 "State Board Exams – Matching of degrees under the old university system with specialist and master’s degrees”, all qualifications awarded under the old system, recognised by Ministerial Decree of 9 July 2009 as being equivalent to those specified by Presidential Decree 328/2001 as valid for gaining access to specific professions, can also be considered applicable for admission to State Board Exams.
Art. 7 of Ministerial Order of 30 March 2012 - Professions regulated by Presidential Decree 328/2001 - states the following: Holders of qualifications obtained under the system in place prior to the reform set up by a decree of the Ministry for Universities and Scientific and Technological Research on 3 November 1999, and relative implementing decrees, sit State Board Exams in accordance with the provisions of Presidential Decree No. 328 of 5 June 2001.
Students who graduate from the University of Milan and who decide to sit the State Board Exam enabling them to practice their chosen profession in a location other than the University, are not required to make any payment to the Lombardy Region since, under Regional Law No. 10 of 14 July 2004, the regional tax for qualifying to practice a profession was abolished.
