Unitech facilities
UNITECH Core Facilities are research infrastructures that support the creativity of our researchers by providing them with state-of-the-art equipment, to encourage participation in research programmes and allow the University to stay ahead of international competition.
UNITECHs provide top-notch multidisciplinary technical services and support both within the University and to external partners, such as research institutes, fostering development and innovation in an environment that promotes interaction among different research sectors.
They streamline the use of human, financial and logistical resources allocated to research by grouping them into advanced university platforms, with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness.
The UNITECH model of the University of Milan represents a best practice in the centralised management of core facilities. This management model has been proposed and analysed by the 4EU+ Alliance within the R&I project TRAIN4EU+, funded under the Horizon 2020 call “Science with and for Society”.
TRAIN4EU+ stands for Transforming ReseArch & INnovation agendas and support in the Alliance and is structured into five work packages. In particular, Work Package 3 (WP3) addresses the sharing of research infrastructures and the development of research support resources as a way to facilitate collaboration among universities, and to increase their capacity to attract funding and participate in international projects.
Since 2022, our UNITECHs have been members of NICo – Network of Italian Core Facilities, an initiative that connects universities, research centres and companies to foster collaboration and innovation. Through this network, UNITECHs can share expertise, tools and ideas, working together on projects aimed at making research more open, sustainable and beneficial for society.
