Internships at the Bank of Italy

Under the internship agreement between the Bank of Italy and the University of Milan, you can do an extracurricular internship at the Secretariat of the Financial Ombudsman Service (ABF) if you are a recent graduate in the single-cycle Master's degree programme in Law, and at the Division of local economic analysis and research (ARET) if you are a recent graduate in a Master's degree programme in the economic and statistical area.

Division of local economic analysis and research (ARET)

The Bank of Italy offers 2 three-month internships to recent Master's degree graduates in economics and statistics. The internships will take place in the Division of local economic analysis and research (ARET) of the Milan branch of the Bank of Italy, starting from October 2019.

Expected start date: October 2019

Requirements

Candidates must:

  1. hold a Master's degree in: business economics (84/S or LM/77); economics (64/S or LM/56); finance (19/S or LM/16); economic, financial and actuarial statistics (91/S); statistics (LM/82); actuarial and financial statistics (LM/83); demographic and social statistics (90/S); analysis of complex systems (48/S); political sciences (70/S or LM/62), or an equivalent degree pursuant to the Interministerial Decree of 9 July 2009;
  2. have obtained any such degree at the University of Milan in the period between 31/10/2018 and 12/07/2019 with a score of at least 105/110 (or equivalent score);
  3. be less than 28 years old on the application deadline date;
  4. have passed a statistics and an econometrics exam. Candidates who, during their entire university study cycle, have passed exams with different names but with a focus on statistics and econometrics shall access the selection process. The COSP internship service will manage the admission procedure.

Financial support
Interns will receive a gross monthly allowance of 1,000 (one thousand) euros, subject to compliance with attendance and confidentiality obligations.

This allowance is incompatible with any other compensation, even in the form of scholarships, research grants or doctoral fellowships. Therefore, winning candidates shall give up any such compensation for the period covered by the internship allowance.

How to apply
Applications must be submitted to the COSP internship service by 12:30pm on 12/07/2019, complete with:

  1. application for admission to the selection process and declaration signed in accordance with articles 46 and 47 of Presidential Decree no. 445/2000 (see attachment);
  2. curriculum vitae;
  3. an abstract of the degree thesis of no more than 350 words;
  4. full list of exams taken (downloadable from UNIMIA);
  5. copy of a valid identity document, in pdf format.

Applications can only be submitted as follows:

  • in paper form, to the COSP during the internship desk opening hours;
  • in pdf format, to stage@unimi.it (the submission date will be the "date received", NOT the "date sent").

Selection process
The COSP will only admit candidates meeting the requirements listed above.
On the deadline, the COSP will identify suitable applications, and select 1 name based on: 1) the highest degree grade; 2) if grades are equal, the most recent graduation date; 3) in the event of a further tie, the younger age. The name submitted to the Bank of Italy will be published on this page starting from Tuesday 23 July 2019.
The candidate thus identified by the University may be invited for an interview with a Commission appointed by the Bank of Italy.
Once the selection process is over, the Bank of Italy will start the extracurricular internship activation procedure.

Secretariat of the Financial Ombudsman Service (ABF)

The Bank of Italy offers 12 extracurricular 6-month internships, tentatively starting in the first half of February 2021, to recent graduates in the single-cycle Master's degree programme in Law. The internships will take place at the Secretariat of the Financial Ombudsman Service (ABF).

Start dates may be staggered, depending on the evolution of the Covid-19 emergency.

Expected start date: February 2021

Requirements

Candidates must:

  1. Have graduated in the single-cycle Master's degree programme in Law from the University of Milan after 3 February 2020, with a score of at least 100/110;

  2. Be less than 28 years old on the application deadline date.

How to apply

Applications must reach the COSP by 12.30 pm on 16 November 2020, complete with:

  1. Application for admission to the selection process and declaration signed in accordance with articles 46 and 47 of Presidential Decree no. 445/2000;

  2. CV;

  3. Abstract of the degree thesis of no more than 350 words;

  4. Copy of a valid ID;

  5. Academic transcript (downloadable from UNIMIA).

Selection process

On the deadline, the COSP will identify suitable applications, and select 20 names to be forwarded to the Bank of Italy, based on: 1) the higher degree grade; 2) if grades are equal, the more recent graduation date; 3) in the event of a further tie, the younger age. The list of names forwarded to the Bank of Italy will be posted to this page as of Monday, 23 November 2020.

The candidates thus selected by the COSP may be invited for an interview with a Commission appointed by the Bank of Italy. The interview will focus on the skills required for the internship and on the candidate's motivation. The interviews will be held at the Milan branch of the Bank of Italy, via Cordusio 5 - 20123 Milan.

The Bank of Italy will notify the selected candidates.

Internship activation

Once the selection process is over, the Bank of Italy will start the extracurricular internship activation procedure.
