Early Legal Traineeship

In accordance with the legal framework on the requirements for practising as a lawyer, students can carry out the first part of their legal traineeship (up to 6 months out of 18) as early as during the last year of the Master's degree programme in Law.

The University of Milan is proud to offer its students this opportunity, thanks to the agreements stipulated with the Bar Associations of Milan, Piacenza and Pordenone.

The minimum duration of early traineeships is 4 months and 15 days.

Early legal traineeships do not provide university credits (CFU/ECTS).

Admission and offers

You are entitled to early traineeship if:

  1. you are enrolled in the last year of the LMG-01 Master's degree programme in Law at the University of Milan;
  2. you are on schedule with exams and you have earned a number of CFU credits equal to that provided for the first four years of the programme by the Student Information Booklet for your year of enrolment. More specifically, you must have passed the following exams:
    1. Civil Law – first part – (IUS/01); 6
    2. Law of Civil Procedure (IUS/15);
    3. Criminal Law (IUS/17);
    4. Law of Criminal Procedure (IUS/16);
    5. Administrative Law (IUS/10);
    6. Constitutional Law (IUS/08); European Union Law (IUS/14);
  3. you have an average exam mark of at least 27/30.

Moreover, you shall graduate within 12 months from the end of the traineeship.

The early traineeship admission procedure includes the following steps:

  1. The Presidency of the Faculty of Law draws up the list of eligible students (see requirements section).
  2. Law firms confirm their willingness to admit student trainees with the Bar Association, specifying the legal areas of traineeship.
  3. The list of law firms is published on this page. You shall apply for traineeships of your interest on the online board, updating and submitting your curriculum for law firms to select the most suitable candidate.
  4. Once a law firm selects you, the curricular traineeship shall be activated through a learning agreement to be validated by a tutoring teacher.
