The specialists in animal health, breeding and zootechnical production must acquire knowledge on the structure of shelters, nutrition, reproduction, welfare and ethology of domestic animals. They must also have basic computer skills for managing farms both from an economic and a health point of view. They must deepen the aspects concerning the pathology, diagnosis and prophylaxis of infectious and parasitic diseases of animals, with particular attention to the notions concerning the prevention of health risk deriving from diseases communicable to humans. Finally, legal and economic notions are necessary.
To this end, the Trainees must acquire:
-knowledge of epidemiology, veterinary public health, zootechnical production and control of the commodity quality of food of animal origin;
- theoretical knowledge and practical skills regarding the recognition of the main infectious and parasitic diseases with particular regard to those included in the Veterinary Police Regulations and in the OIE lists, the notions inherent in the laboratory diagnosis of diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites livestock animals; also notions related to farming technologies (nutrition and pharmacological treatments) concerning in particular the guarantee of food safety regarding the control of residues in food
