Multiscale Integrative Biology (MIB)

Doctoral programme (PhD)
A.Y. 2025/2026
Study area
Science and Technology
The specific objectives of the program are as follows:
- To promote a holistic approach to the study of complex biological problems, emphasizing the interconnections between molecular processes, cellular responses, organismal behavior, and ecosystem functioning.
- To pursue quantitative study of biological phenomena. Students will deepen their understanding of computational and measurement methodologies, applicable across various levels of the biological scale, using established models as well as non-model organisms not necessarily restricted to lab environments.
- To encourage collaborative opportunities between research institutions within and outside the faculty, with other advanced training schools, and with industry, also encouraging the creation of co-supervised research projects.
- To promote internationalization through scientific collaborations, admission of non-Italian PhD candidates, and opportunities for PhD students to conduct research abroad.
- To develop the students' ability to effectively communicate their research, both in scientific contexts and in outreach contexts.
Throughout the PhD program, candidates will consistently engage in experimental research. Their activities will also include the study of scientific publications, the preparation of a doctoral thesis and associated scientific publications, the delivery of seminars, and the participation in national and international conferences. PhD candidates will also be encouraged to organize workshops and seminars, to diversify their knowledge, gather new ideas, and build up their future scientific networks.
